Why does this chicken have a leg missing, waiter?
It was in a fight, sir.
Well, take it back then and bring me the winner.

Does your neighbor return what he borrows?
Yes, he returns our snow shovel in the spring then borrows our lawn mower.

My uncle bought a swell car and he only paid fifty-five dollars for it.
Fifty-five dollars? I can’t get over it!
Neither can he. He’s always under it.

Fine Belgian Hares.

The Belgian hare industry, which is proving so profitable in some parts of the country, is now receiving considerable attention in Carthage, and three or four parties are getting a start with the little animals.

Tom Hall has some extra good ones and will in a few days receive a pair of pedigreed hares of this breed, said to be the finest in this part of the state.

Like blooded horses, swine, sheep and cattle, the finely bred hares bring good money and are supposed to be worth it. They are built much like the native hare, are about as big as a jack rabbit, and are much marked with a reddish tan color instead of being entirely gray.

Sam C. Boggess has given up his position in the mines at Galena and moved back to Carthage with his family yesterday.

Seller's Agreement Details.

A final draft of the proposed exclusive sellers agreement between the City of Carthage and Southwest Agency, Inc. was presented to the Council last week. A previous proposal using a standard agreement provided by the broker was rejected as being unsuitable in this instance.

The new proposed agreement was drawn up by City Attorney Dave Mouton and specifically addresses the City’s understanding of the arrangement. The contract is to have one year expiration period and specifies a 5 percent commission for property sold by the broker. Any other realtors involved in a sale would be paid by the broker.

The City specifically reserves the right to sell property to real estate developers or individuals with no commission being paid. Any realtors contacting the City will be referred to the broker.

In the instance where a deposit is made on a sale and then forfeited, the Council voted to allow the broker only 5 per cent of that deposit. The previous proposed contract allowed that the broker would receive half of the forfeited deposit.

Mornin',

After last week’s comments expressin’ some concerns about merchants not necessarily appreciatin’ closin’ the Square for special occasions, I got a call from another merchant. This one was in favor of anything that brought folks to the Square.

Although some of the events don’t necessarily translate to good days for this particular business, the merchant felt the more folks there, the better it was for the Square in general.

The feelin’ was if there was a parkin’ problem, that was a good problem. Lot better than havin’ plenty of parkin’ with no one ta park. The recent car show on the Square brought the best day of the summer for this business. Win some, loose some.

This is some fact, but mostly,

The Super Handyman.

Dear Al: I have replaced my metal toolboxes with a couple of plastic ice chests. I find them a much better choice.

They are less expensive, they will not rust and they weigh less so I can put more stuff in them. Ask around and see if you can get some free ones. I found some old ones that were destined for the trash because they had small holes in them and were leaking water. They work just great for me and my tools.-G.I.

Q: I had a rust problem in my freezer. I used a rust-stopping paint and then covered that with an enamel paint. Now the freezer smells like paint. How can I get rid of the smell? -M.G.

A: First, try cleaning all the inside surfaces with a bleach-and-water solution. Then wipe the freezer dry and place an open box of baking soda inside.

If the freezer still has odor after a day or so, you might need to remove the freezer liner and deodorize the insulation.

If some of the food in the freezer picked up the smell, the tainted food probably should be discarded.

Good luck!

Dear Carrells: My mother visited us and nearly broke her neck in the bathroom. She slipped on the bathroom mat. Now I have put double sided carpet tape on he back of the mat. It no longer slips, and I think we are all safer. The tape might have to be replaced every now and then, but it is well worth the trouble.- M.P.
