Two young men are walking down Fifth Avenue. One says, "Look at that gorgeous redhead in that green suit."
They walk on, and the young man says, "Wow! Take a gander at that blonde in those red slacks."
They walk on, and the young man says, "Holy cow! Feast your eyes on that tall brunette in the—"
The second young man says, "Is that all you do—just think of clothes?"

It was real cold in the winter. The termites didn’t even have to chew. They just let their teeth chatter and leaned forward.

Meeting of Carthage Circuit.

James P. Newell sent out letters to the secretaries of the fair associations in this circuit, viz: Holden, Rich Hill, Harrisonville and Springfield, requesting them to meet in Carthage, to consider plans and matters of importance in regard to the arrangement of the fairs as to time and entries. It is doubtful if a meeting is held, however, on account of the short notice but an expression will be given as to when a meeting can be held and definite action taken.

He’s All Right Now.

William Pierce, who has been in this city for six weeks taking treatment from Dr. Flower for bronchial catarrh, returned to his home in Springfield yesterday completely cured. He is a brother-in-law of G.W. Thompson of this city.

Short and Sweet.

The City Council is expected to move through its agenda in short time Tuesday evening in City Hall.

Two of the three items scheduled for vote concern the agreement with the Carthage Chamber of Commerce to assume the responsibility of Economic Development services for the City.

The Council has already agreed to the arrangement in principle during a closed session meeting several weeks ago. It is expected that the actual contract will also meet with the approval of the Council.

The other item related to the agreement scheduled for vote is a severance payment for current City Director of Economic Development Max McKnight. McKnight has worked for the City four years and the payment is in consideration of retirement benefits that McKnight will lose when he leaves City employment. The Chamber is expected to retain McKnight as Chamber Director to fulfill its obligation to the City under the new contract.

The Council is also scheduled to vote on a bill amending the City Personnel Policy dealing with worker’s compensation.

Mornin',

Went by and took a look at the Street Department shop that caught fire last week. Pretty much past repair I’d say. From what I’m told the quonset hut has been there since the early ‘40’s and the City has been usin’ it for a shop since the ‘50’s.

Any time I see of these structures that look like a can buried half in the ground I think of their popularity with farmers in the fifty’s. They were quick to put up, held a lot of big equipment, and were easy to maintain. I especially recall those out on the prairie that look like some giant stepped on ‘em, roof saggin’ in the middle. My brother and I would speculate on how big the giant footprints would be and strain to see tracks as we passed on a Sunday drive. Still don’t know what causes that.

This some fact, but mostly,

The Super Handyman

by Al Carrell and Kelly Carrell

Dear Al: I kept an old refrigerator in the garage for overflow from the house. It sure came in handy, but it finally died. At first, I wanted to get rid of it, but then decided to keep it. I reasoned that I could fill it with paint, thinner and other items that might be considered fire hazards. I think these things will be safer closed up tightly in the old fridge rather than just sitting around my garage. I have added a hasp lock to the front, to make sure the kids don’t get in accidentally. - H. T.

Super Hint - A good way to bring some life back to a well-worn pair of leather work gloves is to let them sit overnight in a bucket of cornmeal. That should remove most of the grease that builds up on them. If there’s a stubborn stain, try rubbing some cornmeal into it.

Q: The glass door on my oven is very dirty. What product can I use to clean off the door so I can see in again? - B. W.

A: An ammonia-and-water solution should do the job. Have plenty of ventilation when you apply it, because the fumes can knock your head off!

Dear Al & Kelly: You have suggested turning an aerosol paint can upside down and spraying a quick blast to clean the tiny hole in the nozzle.

If you do that very often, the propellant can be gone before the paint is. I just remove the nozzle and put it on a spray can of carburetor cleaner. One blast of that and the nozzle is clean. - T. W.
