The best way to diet: Take your scale out of the bathroom and put it in front of your refrigerator.

Two old codgers went fishing one morning. Sitting in the boat, neither of them said a word for hours. Then one shuffled his legs a little, trying to work out a cramp. He shuffled his legs again about two hours later. His buddy looked up and said, "Did you come to fish or to practice your dancing?"

You never finish paying for a house in the suburbs. Last Christmas we got a card from the bank that said, Merry Christmas from our house to our house.

Miss Tuttle Entertains.

Last evening at her home on Orchard street Miss Ina Tuttle informally entertained a number of friends. The occasion was made enjoyable to all by amusements devised by the hostess; crockinole, other games and music were interesting features.

Light refreshments were served in a kindly manner by Miss Tuttle and added to the pleasure of the evening. Those present were Misses King, Ada Paugh, Mary Jackson, Pearl Taylor of Joplin, Messrs. Roe Dearinger, Joe Paugh and Urbin Tuttle.

Yearning for Bridges.

At the last meeting of the Joplin Club, "Mr. Guengerich stated that the road committee had held a meeting yesterday afternoon and had decided to recommend that a committee of fifteen be sent from the club to attend every session of the county court until that body decided to furnish some bridges for the western end of the county."

Life Drawing Sessions to Begin in April.

by Robin Putnam, artCentral

Could it be that spring is really just around the corner.....the grass seems a bit greener......we have 4 sets of lambs hopping around in the pasture...there are daffodils here and there.....it must be true!! Let’s just hope it won’t snow this month!!

Even better news....we have booked our fourth show for 2001 !! We are soooo pleased. Some of the artists are having their SECOND show with us !! Yea !!

It’s just all so exciting !! We are planning to re-start our Life Drawing Sessions in April. Yea !! One of our members, David Orton, Joplin, is going to take over where our dear friend Mary left off. We thank him sooo very much !!

We have decided to hold them on Thursday evenings here in our new classroom. As last time each person attending will pay five or six dollars to cover the models fee. Interested persons should call us and give us their name and phone number so we can contact you prior to the first session.

We have plenty of room now and will provide the model and the drawing benches.

Everyone is welcome, beginner or master artisan, just bring your own supplies. We already know of at least three people that will be coming from Joplin !! A big thank you to David for being sooo helpful !!

If you still haven’t seen Joe Leiter’s super exhibit (Karen !!) you can catch it if you hurry!! It will be up until March 17th.

The four artists who will be exhibiting next all have a common bond.....they live, love and paint the four state area, animals and people !!

Mary Ellen Pitts is from Neosho and works in pastels, Barbra Courtney paints in oils and she’s from Okla-homa, Marion Bryant is from Kansas and prefers water-colors on a large scale and Joann Stuart from Fay-etteville does pen & ink drawings as well as oil paintings.

These ladies are all very talented and this will be a wonderful show !! The opening reception will be on March 24th.

Mornin',

It’s odd how the weather can fool ya.

There is no doubt in my mind that we’re on the back side of winter. I’m fairly confident that spring is just around the corner. But the other day I stepped outside and was thinkin’ it was fall. For a split second I was transformed to the realm of rakin’ leaves and high school football games.

The mind is a terrible thing.

Rational thoughts are blown away in the wind and ya have to yank back to reality of gettin’ the lawn mower out to trim the wild onions. Havin’ to watch the weather channel just ta know what your wardrobe will be for the day. Not like the long stretch of summer with a consistent, unrelenting heat that drives ya to a cool shade tree for relief. I think I’ll just take one day at a time.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

Browsing through Michael Murray, N.D.’s expanded version of The Healing Power of Herbs, I was pleased to see his clear explanation of the usage of bromelain. I personally have used it for inflammation and find it quite effective.

Bromelain is an enzyme which aids the digestion of protein. It is derived from pineapple.

"Commercial bromelain has been reported to exert a wide variety of pharmacological effects: digestion assistance, antiinflammatory activity, burn debridement, prevention of swelling, smooth muscle relaxation, inhibition of blood platelet aggregation, enhancement of antibiotic absorption, ulcer prevention, sinusitis relief, appetite inhibition, shortening of birth labor and enhancement of wound healing."

Bromelain was introduced as a therapeutic agent in 1957 and has more than 200 scientific papers on its therapeutic applications.

In the early research using entiric coated bromelain was not as effective as the later research in which the coating was removed and larger more adequate dosages were administered.
