Veterinary Surgeon- "The cow must take a tablespoon of this medicine twice daily."
Farmer- "But our cow has no tablespoons. She drinks out of a pail."

The astronomy professor was lecturing. "I predict the end of the world in fifty million years."
"How many?" cried a frightened voice from the rear.
"Fifty million years."
"Oh," said the voice with a deep sigh of relief, "I thought you said fifteen million."

INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.

Flower Girls, Clowns and Nuns.

A mask party was given by the Misses Mary and Algie Dodson last evening. Nearly all the guests were masked and some of the costumes were strikingly unique. A number of the young ladies represented flower girls, nuns, little red riding hoods, etc., while James Hollingsworth was a very old lady, and Joe McMahan was a prim old maid, too modest for anything. There was also an abundance of clowns and people of different nationalities.

The evening was certainly one of the most enjoyable of the season, and after appropriate refreshments were served at 10:30 the party unmasked and disbanded.

On her way home from her visit in Illinois Mrs. M. E. Parsons will stop at Warrensburg, Mo., and visit with Miss Eva Bowen, who is there attending the state normal.

Maintenance Code Research.

The City Council Public Works Committee worked through another round of discussions concerning the proposed changes in the building maintenance code during a meeting Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.

About a half dozen property owners and concerned citizens were in attendance and presented some statistics they had distilled from case histories supplied by the City.

A map of the City was shown with colored pins representing structures that had been cited for code violations. The largest number of the pins were located in the northern portion of the City. It was noted by the Committee and acknowledged by the property owners that it was logical that most violations would occur in older neighborhoods.

It was pointed out that the current and proposed code does place significant responsibility on the occupants of a structure as well as the property owners. City Engineering Department Director Joe Butler agreed that more could be done to emphasize the occupants role in maintaining structures.

Discussion of procedures and the appeals process will continue next meeting.

Mornin',

I’ve never figured out folks who complain about a tv show, and then commence to tell you all the details of why. It usually becomes apparent that they regularly tune in to the program.

There are plenty of tv shows that I don’t like, I don’t watch ‘em.

Back when there were only three networks and we could only get decent reception on two of ‘em, I wasn’t near so picky. ‘Course I was just a kid too. Didn’t know no better. (or Mom was in control of the room.)

Fact is, now I can find an endless number of tv shows I don’t wanna watch. The fact that I can determine in three seconds whether or not I’m interested sometimes annoyin’ to others in the room who don’t have a remote however.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Greeting from Galveston, Texas! Clear skies at 7:30 this morning and the Gulf breeze blowing the beautiful clouds around. Yesterday we visited the art museum in Houston for the day. What an incredible way to spend a day. We ended the evening with a stroll on the beach and my "granddog" chased every bird in sight. Jennifer and Travis’ house withstood the hurricane of 1900 that devastated most of the island.

I want to share with you from CONVALESCENT’S RECEIPT BOOK, printed in 1901. I feel much of this can apply today, especially if the flu season hits as hard as it did last year.

"If it is practicable to select a room…on the sunny side of the house. Of utmost importance is ventilation, and it should be remembered that the thermometer does not record the purity of the air, but simply the temperature. This point cannot be to strongly emphasized, as much depends on the quality of the air taken into the lungs."

"Absolute cleanliness and tidiness are necessary in a sick-room. The temperature should be kept as even as possible. Everything in the room should be arranged with a view to cleanliness, convenience, comfort, and simplicity.." These are just a few tidbits from long ago which still apply today.
