today's laugh

"My brother swallowed my history book. Now he has hiccups all the time."
"That shows history repeats itself."

"He made an unusually good after-dinner speech."
"What did he say?"
"He said: Waiter, give me the check."

Can you think of anything worse than raining cats and dogs?
Yes, hailing taxis.

Off Site Storm Water Detention.

The Public Works Committee voted last Tuesday afternoon to recommend to the full Council that developers of Myers Park Property be allowed to pay a one time fee to access the City’s storm water retention facility. The retention pond was built by the City to help slow storm water that was diverted areas around Myers Park as well as future increased runoff as the site develops.

The City currently requires that any commercial development of over one acre include some type of water retention system. A detailed formula is used to determine the increased storm water runoff that is created by paved parking or structures on developed property.

City Engineering Department Director Joe Butler informed the Committee that the facility currently can currently handle more runoff and can be expanded if necessary.

The proposed ordinance would allow developers to pay a one time fee for use of the facility. The Southwest Missouri Bank construction is estimated to need about 20,000 cubic feet of storage for detention. Under the proposal, the fee for use of the City’s off site facility would be about $15,000.

Just Jake Talkin'

Mornin',

I checked with City Hall today and there was nothin’ comin’ from there about the special closed session of the City Council Wednesday evenin’.

‘Course there was some speculation in the other local papers ‘bout it bein’ somethin’ to do with the proposed airport deals. That has got a lota coverage in the last few weeks. The vote scheduled for next Tuesday on whether or not to go ahead with condemnation of the land is a pretty well discussed topic from what I can tell.

From the discussions at the last Council meetin’, there appears ta be some on the Council that haven’t settled for sure on their upcomin’ vote. Should be an interestin’ get together to try and settle this thing.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

Soup time is upon us. If sometime in your past you decided you did not like lentils or green peas, think again. We get more discriminating taste as adults and with this recipe you’ll be glad you tried rich, brown lentils again. Plus, this is a healthy recipe and great warmed over.

Lentil Soup for 6

• 1 tbsp x-vrgn olive oil

• 2 large onions diced

• 4 cloves garlic crushed

• 2 finely diced green peppers

• 10 cups vegetable stock

• 1 1/2 cups lentils

• 1/3 tsp dried thyme

• freshly ground pepper & 1/2 tsp salt

• 28 oz. can tomatoes finely chopped

• 1 lb. fresh spinach or 10 oz. frozen chopped

• 4 tbsp flax seed oil

Heat the olive oil in a large soup pot over medium heat. Add next 3 ingredients simmer 10 min. Add the remaining ingredients EXCEPT spinach and flax seed oil & bring to boil. Reduce heat & simmer for 45 min. or until lentils are tender. Add the chopped spinach and cook for 5 min. until tender. Remove from heat and stir in the flax seed oil. Remember, we don’t cook with flax seed oil, it is added for rich flavor. If you plan "left overs" add a tsp. of oil to each serving before serving. ENJOY.
