"I fear that young man I gave a job to last week is dishonest."
"Oh, you shouldn’t judge by appearances!"
"I’m not; I’m judging by disappearances in this case."

Long Range Plan In.

A meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 3 for the distribution of the document that resulted from the Long-range Visioning Summit last September. The meeting will be held in City Hall at 8 A.M.

Approximately 60 people participated in the Visioning Summit to map out a direction future for the City of Carthage. Several action Councils were formed and submitted recommendations. These recommendations make up the bulk of the document.

In a letter to the participants, Mayor Kenneth Johnson says that it is the intent of the City to use the document in the policy consideration for growth and development for the City.

"We will also be providing information on the intent to implement the action plans of various Action Councils," wrote the Mayor.

The two day summit in September consisted of various activities including "brainstorming" and the group breaking in to various committees to address such issues as housing, long range planning, multicultural effects, education and recreational activities.

Mornin',

As a kid in school, I was always plannin’.

‘Course the teacher often misunderstood this functional activity and accused me of too much "day dreamin’."

I suppose all plans are dreams until ya actually put ‘em into play.

The Visionin’ Summit folks were encouraged to do quite a bit of "day dreamin’" durin’ their time together. Part of the meetin’ this Friday is supposed ta be about actually keepin’ those dreams goin’ long enough to actually see some results.

A couple of the Action Councils, the Tourism one in particular, have continued to meet and are gettin’ some things accomplished. Hopefully, the rest of the group will follow suit.

This is some fact, but mostly,

The Super Handyman

Q: A bottle of nail polish was accidentally knocked over on my maple dressing table.

The cap leaked and the bottle is now stuck on the dresser along with a large blob of the dried polish. Is there anything I can do to remove the mess without ruining the finish?-H.P.?

A: Try pouring a little mineral oil around the edges of the blob. Then carefully work at these edges with an old plastic credit card. Hold the card as flat as possible so it won’t scratch the surface.

It will help if any of the oil works under the blob, but the oil is there primarily to let the plastic scrape without damaging the surface. Resist the urge to use nail polish remover, as it will remove the finish on the furniture.

When is a caulking gun not a caulking gun? When it’s a clamp. When you are in a bind and need to clamp a small project and don’t have one handy, try substituting a caulking gun.

Place the item to be clamped between the foot of the push rod and the front of the caulking gun and tighten it up with the trigger. It may sound crazy but it can give you a break until the glue is set or until you can hunt down a more suitable clamp.

SUPER HINT-Drilling in metal is tough and you really need to be careful about metal splinters.

Always wear goggles and gloves, and never blow the splinters away. Use a magnet to pick them up and discard them in the trash.
