MRS. TRENKLER’S GIFT.

Prof. Gray Presented a Valuable German
Library of Several Hundred Volumes.

Mrs. O. Trenkler, who left last Saturday to spend her remaining years in Germany, presented to Principal Gray of the High School a very fine German library of several hundred volumes.

Several of the scientific and philosophical works are first editions and bear dates as far back as 1783 and 1789. The editions de lux of Goethe and Shiller are masterpieces of the bookbinder’s art. Included in the collection are Nehrling’s treatise on the birds of North America which is a classic in its field and copiously illustrated with colored plates of the birds of this continent and Meyer’s Universum of 20 volumes which is at present under the ban in Germany because of the enlightened republican opinions which its author lets forth.

Besides the library, the aged lady left with Mr. Gray an excellent microscope of 500 diameters, made in Germany and used by Dr. Trenkler in his university work at Jena, together with a large collection of bacteriological slides and the scientific instruments used by the doctor in his long practice.

The microscope and other suitable instruments will be used by Mr. Gray in his science work in the High School and a number of the books in the school library.

MGE October Payment Plan.

news release

Missouri Gas Energy (MGE) is offering special payment terms throughout October to encourage customers to establish service before severe weather arrives.

The special offer is being made as part of the company’s Cold Weather Rule, which was voluntarily implemented on October 1, instead of the start date of November.

"We moved up the effective date of the Cold Weather Rule to help customers struggling with overdue bills," said Greg Pollard, an MGE executive in charge of customer service.

Throughout October, customers that have not fulfilled previous Cold Weather Rule pay agreements will be able to establish gas service by paying 50 percent of their outstanding balance.

Starting in November, customers will be required to pay 75 percent of their balance to establish service.

In addition to helping customers establish service in October, MGE is urging customer to take steps to prevent large bills from occurring. Those steps include weatherization and conservation efforts.

Hey Guys,

Not one mention of the Maple Leaf Car show, who brings in over 300 cars yearly with an average of 3 people to a car. That means over 900 participants. Not to mention the swap meet and the lookers. We are jammed packed out there at the Mother of Co- Redemptrix. We bus people up town for the craft show and out to Precious Moments. We bring in a lot of overnight tourism dollars, because people stay Friday night so they can get to the grounds for a good parking spot and then they stay Saturday night so they can go on to Miami, Oklahoma for the Sunday show that has over 300 cars. Please do not leave us out of the schedule.

Stress. This is the season for it. The following are a few herbs which have been used to keep the nervous systems strong.

Skullcap: is one of the bitter herbs. It has compounds that have sedative effects and relieve muscle spasms. This herb is useful in calming the nervous and circulatory systems. It is also a source of bioflavoloids. Traditional usage of this herb has been to treat insomnia, anxiety, headache, enuresis and muscle twitching. I find this herb very beneficial when I am stressed, but must keep going. It takes the edge off!

Hops: are also a bitter herb. Do not think of hops as only good in or for making beer. It has been used by folk herbalists to relieve muscle tension and as an antiseptic for the urinary tract. Some say that it relieves the pain of spastic colon.

Valerian: has been used to decrease anxiety and aggression. It has a smell which is quite unpleasant, but the benefits far exceed the obnoxious odor. Valerian is high in natural calcium and magnesium. It has been used to treat nervousness, anxiety, muscle spasms, and aid in sleep. This herb is not a good herb to give to children. Continued use of this product may cause mild depression so it should be alternated with other nervines.

Passion flower: In France, this herb has been used to calm children. It is a mild nervine and is said to help one focus attention. It tastes rather good and when it is combined with chamomile makes a nice bedtime tea.
