INTERESTING MELANGE.

A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.

An Obliging Constable.

A prisoner named Gilmore, in charge of a constable from Duenweg was being brought to the county jail yesterday morning, and asked permission as they passed to step into Al Parker’s saloon on east Fourth street. The obliging officer consented and waited patiently in front, while Gilmore went right through the saloon and ran out the back way. He had had several minutes start when the constable came to his senses, and had made good his get away.

Police Court Victims.

Son Ellison and Harry Spry were fined yesterday in police court for intoxication and resulting hilarity. John Alyea paid $8.50 for hurling a glass through Rainwater’s saloon, and Georgia Eldridge stood pat for trial tomorrow for disturbance. Office Hedrick arrested Spry and Office Drake got the rest of the quartet.

Special Council Session.

The City Council is scheduled to meet for a special session tomorrow evening due to a lack of quorum for last weeks regular meeting.

The Council will be back on its regular schedule of meeting the second and fourth Tuesday of the month next week. The Council meets in City Hall at 7:30 p.m.

The items scheduled for vote include a change of policy that would increase the City’s participation in sidewalk improvements from $1.50 a square foot to $2.50.

Council bill 02-32 would authorize a contract with APAC for $75,085.15 to build a walking trail at Fair Acres Sports Complex.

Also scheduled for vote is Council bill 02-23 which would authorize a contract for the sale of the City owned property located at 116-128 W. Third to Mariposa Ranches for a sum of $101.

New business scheduled for first reading includes the proposed "grandfather clause" that would allow liquor licenses to be issued to any business that had obtained a license at the same location within one year proceeding application.

Mornin',

Since the Mornin’ Mail is involved in helpin’ organize the upcomin’ Acoustic Music Festival for next Saturday, the weather has become onea the ongoin’ concerns.

The long range forecast for June 8 has been checked daily and from my last observance, the thunderstorms initially predicted for the day have been postponed until Sunday the 9th.

There is more rain expected on Tuesday or Wednesday this week, then clearin’ off. ‘Course there are provisions for an indoor event if in fact the predictions are unfounded.

For most, there has been plenty a rain for a while and I’m guessin’ we’ll not hurt anyone’s feelin’s if we hope for a dry Saturday this week. Might bring an umbrella just in case.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin’.

The Super Handyman

by Al Carrell & Kelly Carrell

Dear Al & Kelly: Our home has plaster walls that are tough to hammer a nail into. The wall tends to crack, or the plaster might chip. I have found a unique way to handle this. I heat up some water in a saucepan and drop the nails into the hot water. After a couple of minutes, I don protective gloves, remove the hot nails from the pan and then hammer away. The nails go in much easier and without damaging the wall. - H. W.

A Super Hint - If you buy a new refrigerator, harvest parts from the old one. You can use the shelves as drying racks for small painted projects; the vegetable bins for storing tools and hardware; the gaskets for shop projects.

Q: I plan to turn my garage into a shop. I have your basic metal overhead door and would like to insulate it somehow. What does one use for this? - B. C.

A: Glue rigid foam insulation to each of the door’s panels or you can get kits for weather-stripping a garage door. These steps are not a perfect solution, but they should help a lot.

Dear Kelly: My father gave me his secret recipe for a marble-tabletop cleaner. He uses white bread mixed with hydrogen peroxide. You make a paste with the ingredients and spread over the stain. Let it sit for an hour or two. It’s surprising how many stains the paste can eliminate. I’ve tried store-bought formulas, and they don’t work as well.
