"What does an efficiency expert do?"
"Well, if we women did it, they’d call it nagging."

"Brown’s In Town" Tonight.

"Brown’s in Town" is the clever title of the latest farce which will be given its first presentation in this city tonight.

The lines in "Browns in Town" are said to be bright and witty, and upon investigation one finds there are a great many reasons for Brown remaining in Town. One of the principal reasons is the fact that he wishes to keep his marriage a secret from his father, who does not want him to take a wife, until he reaches the age of twenty-five. Brown is an assumed name and is a good fellow - not the farce comedy good fellow but a manly man. The tone of "Brown’s in town" is said to be above the average farce, but it is none the less amusing and is all the more agreeable for that.

News release

The 38th Annual Maple Leaf Parade, sponsored by Leggett & Platt and Southwest Missouri and hosted by the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 16 on the Historic Carthage Square. The event, which is one of the highlights of the 10-day Maple Leaf Festival, brings over 50,000 visitors to the local community.

This year’s parade will feature close to 200 entries including numerous floats, two dozen marching bands, lots of antique and specialty cars, clowns, horses, and much more. The two-mile parade route will begin on the Historic Carthage Square and continue south through town on Grant/Grand Avenue before turning east on Centennial and ending up at the Carthage Junior High School. Parade watchers are reminded not to stand in the parade route and are asked to not cross the street when the parade is in motion.

Among the special entries to this year’s parade is Goliath, the tallest Percharon draft horse in the world. This gentle giant stands 6 feet 6 inches at the shoulder and is owned by Priefert Manufacturing out of Mount Pleasant, Texas. Festival participants can visit Goliath at Race Brother’s Farm & Home Supply until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

For more festival information or to inquire about an event application, contact the Chamber at 358-2327.

Mornin'

We’re bettin’ on a nice, crisp, sunny day for tomorrow’s Maple Leaf Parade.

The Square has been feelin’ the increase in activity durin’ the pre-parade days. ‘Course the Rotary Club has their tent set up and is ready for business today. Their Brats-On-The-Square is always a popular gatherin’ spot before and after the parade.

I am lookin’ forward to seein’ this six-foot, six-inch horse that’s in the parade. But I am glad I’m not in a twirlin’ team followin’ that show.

With over 200 entries, this year is bein’ promoted as the largest ever. Bein’ a political year, I’m guessin’ that will swell the ranks some. Still no competition when it comes to the horse, of course.

Pick your spot and be ready for another great show for the family.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Natural Nutrition

By Mari An Wills

Yeah!! The Maple Leaf Festival this weekend. Welcome to all visitors...have fun...enjoy and come again.

What is an "alterative" herb or tonic herb?

These are the herbs which gradually alter and correct a condition involving the blood without necessarily producing changes in elimination. They aid in nutrition uptake and often allow an organ to begin the healing process. They promote absorption often reducing inflammatory conditions by stimulating the lymphatic glands.

They old timers speak of "blood purification" to remove accumulations which often occur because of malabsorption of food. The use of the "alterative" herb and purification of blood was said to restore the organs so they could do their jobs properly. Taking these herbs in small amounts after cleansing was noted for maintaining good health.

An example of some alteratives would be: yellow dock, red clover, curley dock, golden seal, echinacea and plantain leaves. Sassafras was a favorite of my family. My Aunt would put a pot on the stove in early April through May. Many of these herbs show up in todays modern formulas suggesting that the test of time has proven itself again.
