"As your friend, I ought to tell you, that Jim Johnson is going around telling all kinds of lies about you."
"Oh, that’s OK. But if he ever starts telling the truth, let me know. I’ll break his neck."

"I had a fall last night which rendered me unconscious for several hours."
"You don’t say! Where did you fall?"
"I fell asleep."

Chances for Young Men.

The Maryville Tribune with fine opportunism thus discourses on the opportunities for young men of the present day.

"There has scarcely been a time for years that the Tribune did not have a place for bright boys and young men who were willing to work conscientiously to master one or all of the departments of newspaper work. And to show that reward will come with mastery it need only be stated that during those same years there has never been a time when this paper was not in the market for men skilled in the mechanical or news departments, or, if all departments on this paper were full when it could not direct good men to good places.

The World never saw greater opportunities for bright, intelligent optimistic boys and young men than now exist. There is not a business man in this or any other town who is not looking for younger men of metal. All they have to do is prove their metal."

Stream Team Public Forum.

News release

The Carthage Stream Team headed by Carthage High School teacher, Wayne Christian, will present a Public Forum Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Carthage Senior High School Auditorium at 7 PM.

The Stream team encourages all concerned citizens to come and share their concerns about the current pollution contamination of Spring River just outside our backdoor.

This forum is entitled "Spring River—Pollution and Protection". Four high school student groups will act as moderators and presenters on two topics. These groups will discuss the collected data which the Stream Team has compiled on Spring River. The students will then discuss and educate the public about current Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency’s rules and regulations for stream pollution as well as legislative changes currently being proposed to "dismantle the DNR.

The public is invited to learn about the local water pollution in our area. For more information please contact Wayne Christian at 358-8828 or at christianw@carthage.k12.mo.us or Ed Grundy at 358-6055 or at grundy6055@sbcglobal.net.

Maybe it’s ‘cause I don’t buy much bubble gum any more. Or maybe comic books. I haven’t seen those ads for x-ray glasses for a long time.

I never sent in one of those art test off a book of matches either. Figured they were lookin’ for better talent than me for such a highly promoted school. I figured out later I would’ave been the perfect candidate. It would have taken me years and several hundred dollars in lessons to be able to draw that pirate.

Don’t see many ads on books a matches anymore either. And I suppose it’d be too hard ta draw a pirate face on a Bic.

‘Course if they’d only bought a pair of those x-ray glasses, they coulda read the ads without openin’ the matchbook cover in the first place.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Love...the best medicine. This is the hardest time of year to decide who to send a valentine to. I bump into so many people who practice loving kindness on a daily basis. How can I not send a card to the store clerk who went out of her way to find something especially for me and was very nice about it, or what about the person who ran after me just to say I dropped a glove, or what about that waitress who saw the meal was not up to par and just took care of it, or the man at the gas pump that just offered to clean my windshield as he was cleaning his, or children, spouse, Aunts, Uncles, Grandkids, sisters, neighbors, brothers all the volunteers for various organizations? Where does it all end?

Know that there is power in the word "I love you". Why do you suppose people misuse it to get their way, mislead or some other deed which may not be too upstanding? People crave it. On the other hand, when the intention is honest, those 3 words are the best. When they are the first words a newly conceived baby hears or the last words a loved one hears they are so powerful. Then we know the words "Jesus loves you" and what more comfort than that?

A traditionally used heart nutrient is the beautiful heart-shaped hawthorne berry. According to many of the old herbalists, including Jethro Kloss in Back to Eden, it regulates the beat of the heart and also strengthens it.

Practice unconditional love, give a hug & Happy Valentines Day.

More details on fun and easy "How to" workshop

Since several folks have called artCentral wanting to know more about "How to Paint Successful Landscapes", the 2-day workshop offered by Mary Ellen Pitts on March 12, 13. Please, read on!

This relaxed workshop, suitable for all levels of ability, focuses on the study and application of elements for creating a successful landscape. Choose either oil, acrylic, or pastel, and Mary Ellen will provide a list of suggested materials for you to purchase.

Mary Ellen will begin the workshop with a short demonstration the first morning, with the remainder of the workshop time devoted to students working on their own paintings, at their own speed, receiving individual attention as needed.

You will learn about composition, values, edges, color, perspective, strong focal point, and how to plan a painting. (Don’t worry if you don’t know what those terms mean. That’s why you are taking the class!)

You are most fortunate to have Mary Ellen Pitts as your teacher. She received her art education at Southern Methodist University and is a highly regarded instructor, having given workshops and classes in the Four State Region for many years. An accomplished artist, she holds Signature Membership in the Ozark Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of America. Her work is represented by Morrison Woodward Gallery in Eureka Springs, and Arts Alliance in Bentonville, Arkansas, and has been featured in art books and prominent art magazines.
