I’ve always thought that havin’ several options was a good thing. Like Yogi used ta say, when ya come to a fork in the road, take it.

Most folks think of the sayin’ "like a kid in a candy store" as meanin’ they are full of energy and havin’ a good time. Havin’ grown up in a candy store, I’ve got a little different slant on the sayin’.

Kids in a candy store have way too many decisions. Typically they have a limited budget and are lookin’ for the best bargain and still get the choice of the counter.

When I was behind the counter the budget was typically a penny, a nickel, and on rare occasions as much as a quarter. A nickel at the time would buy nearly any candy bar or a handful of the two for a penny stuff. Way too many options for a seven year old.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Here's A Tip

By JoAnn Derson

• "Kitties have hairballs? Rub butter on the tops of their front paws. They will lick it off, and the butter will give their digestive tract the lubrication it needs to pass the hairball without trouble." — M.C. in Oklahoma

• To save money, try going out for lunch instead of dinner. Or, have dinner at home and go out for dessert. You still get the experience of "going out," but you’ll pay much less for your meal.

• "On a diet? Try focusing on the positive aspects of your eating changes. Think about the foods you will still be able to eat rather than the ones you must not have. Vegetables are a good filler and should make up half of your plate." — A Nutritionist in Delaware

• "I keep a three-ring binder of magazine articles that I have cut out. I have a special section for exercises. When I get bored with my routine, I just pull out a new article. It makes exercising fun!" — E.D. in California

• "Save old calendars that have pretty pictures for the months. The prints can be used for so many things. Small calendar pages can be laminated and used as coasters. Larger ones can be used as place mats. It makes for an interesting table setting." — T.B. in Oklahoma

• "When shoveling snow, keep these tips in mind: Don’t overload your shovel. It might seem like you are getting more done, but your arms will tire quickly. Also, spray your shovel with cooking spray. It cuts right into the snow bank, and the snow will slide right off." — D.O’B in Idaho
