Ribbon Cutting for Schwan’s.

News release.

A Carthage Chamber Ribbon Cutting ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7 at 5627 S. Garrison Ave. for Schwan’s Home Service, a unit of The Schwan Food Company which will open a $1.6 million sales, distribution and regional training center in Carthage.

Hart Electric Inc., of Matthews, Missouri, is serving as general contractor for the project. The 8,500 square foot facility will support 10 Schwan’s delivery trucks.

The 17 employees of the depot deliver Schwan’sŪ fine frozen foods within a 75-mile radius of Carthage and surrounding communities such as Joplin and Mount Vernon. The new structure will replace the current depot, located in Mount Vernon for 33 years.

"Our investment is a reflection of the growth in our business and our commitment to our loyal customers," said Schwan President and CEO Lenny Pippin.

The Schwan Food Company plans to invest roughly $230 million in 2005, building new depots, upgrading manufacturing plants and enhancing its fleet of propane-powered delivery trucks.

It’s always handy ta have a few nails around the house. Ya never know when ya might want ta hang a picture or fasten that porch rail. I feel comfortable with the old fashioned eight penny for nailin’ to 2x4’s and a couple of finishin’ nails for trim work. Having a few sixteen penny spikes comes in handy for those heavier repairs or light construction. Now I’ve had ta add a new dimension to my collection, a variety of fasteners for my battery powered screw driver.

Havin’ a few tools and gadgets around in case of emergency was just part of my upbringin’ I suppose. I’d have ta guess that it comes from a heritage of rural “root cellar” dependant ancestors. ‘Course such thinkin’ can lead to just havin’ a lot of useless junk ya have ta trip over. At least if ya got a few nails and a little lumber, you can build a box to keep it all in.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Here's A Tip

By JoAnn Derson

• Going on a road trip this summer? Check your tire pressure to save money. Maintaining the correct tire pressure can have a direct effect on how many miles you get to the gallon. It can save you in everyday driving, but it really adds up when traveling longer distances. Check your car’s manual for the correct pressure. Some cars also have a sticker in the doorwell or glove box with that information.

• “To get out mildew stains, pretreat the stained area and launder in the hottest water possible for the fabric. Then let the item dry in the sun.” -- P.L. in Georgia

• “To limit TV time for our kids, we let them look at the Sunday TV guide and pick a certain amount of shows they want to watch. Since most shows are a half-hour and they are picking for the entire week, the number looks big, but in reality, it amounts to only a little more than an hour of television a day.” -- T.K. in Illinois

• Did you know that honey has antibacterial properties? Try rubbing a bit of it over a small cut for faster, more natural healing.
