today's laugh

Billy Joe frantically called the hospital. "My wife’s going into labor - you gotta send help!" he cried.
"Relax now," the nurse said calmly. "Is this her first child?"
"No!" Billy Joe replied. "This is her husband!"

Got A Nail In His Foot.

Dan French Narrowly Escaped Lockjaw - Slight Wound by Dangerous to Life.

Dan French, a carpenter living on Limestone street, stepped on a rusty nail yesterday morning. The nail entered his foot through the instep and came out through the skin on top.

The nail was pulled out immediately but the would bled very little. There was little pain and not much attention was paid to it. Toward evening inflammation set in and the injury became so painful that a physician was consulted.

The danger of lockjaw was so imminent that heroic measures were adopted in the treatment, which were successful. It was feared the wound, even though small and insignificant, would cause death. There is no known cure for lockjaw.

This morning Mr. French was able to come up town on crutches. He says the wound is not gaining him and he thinks he will soon be well.

No Odors

Mornin

Carthage has the unique honor of having the first building constructed for the purpose of housing a Laubach literacy center. The local organization that grew into the current Family Literacy Council saw the need for an adult learning center and through the volunteer efforts of a faithful few, put together a next egg for a building fund. The enthusiasm eventually attracted the attention and contributions from local businesses and private individuals. These funds, along with help from the Boylan foundation resulted in the purchase of property at 706 Orchard and the construction of the Francis A. Jones Neighborhood Center. Jones was an early and consistent force behind the fund raising efforts and the literacy program in Carthage.

The investment of effort, dollars and service for the Community continue to pay excellent dividends.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Whiteheads and Blackheads

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: I have whiteheads on my face. What can be done to get rid of them? — M.D.

ANSWER: Whiteheads and blackheads are two manifestations of the same process. They are skin pores clogged with impacted skin oil. If the opening of the skin pore is sealed off from air, the result is a whitehead. Air in contact with oil turns it black. An opened, clogged pore, therefore, is a blackhead. If the pore becomes inflamed, then a pimple results.

The same medicines used for acne often work for whiteheads and blackheads. You’ll find them on the shelves of all drugstores. Choose ones that have either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Be patient. It takes months before you see results.

Two warnings: Don’t try to express whiteheads by squeezing them, and don’t scrub your face raw with harsh soaps. Squeezing can spread oil into adjacent skin and make matters worse. Scrubbing irritates the skin. Chose a mild soap and don’t overdo it. Twice-a-day washing is enough.

DEAR DR. DONOHUE: It’s claimed that apple cider vinegar can banish arthritis, forestall osteoporosis, prevent cancer, kill infection, control weight and preserve memory. May I have your thoughts on this? — J.B.

ANSWER: I don’t know of any evidence to support such claims. I roll my eyes upward when such statements are made.
