                Talkin'
                Mornin
                Theres probly nothin more
                irritatin than havin someone ya
dont recognize wave real big at ya from
                across the street. Its
not the fact theyre bein friendly
that is the problem. The irritatin part is
spendin the rest of the day tryin ta
figure out who they are. Even days later ya find
yourself spendin a few seconds tryin
                to remember.
I suppose that is one a the
problems with livin in a small town. You
can irritate folks without even tryin.
                Its like the old trick
wed play as kids. Standin on a busy
street corner and pointin up to the sky.
Fore long everone is tryin to
                see what youre pointin at.
If ya want to really befuddle
someone ya dont know, pick a busy spot and
walk up and tell em how good it is to see
                them again.
This is some fact, but mostly,
                Just Jake Talkin.

Donohue, M.D.What Causes High Blood Pressure?
                DEAR DR. DONOHUE:
I have had high blood pressure for years. I asked
my doctor what causes it. He said he did not know
and that nobody knows. Maybe you can help.
                R.M.
                ANSWER: Close to
30 percent of the adult North American population
                has high blood pressure hypertension.
About 94 percent of those people have essential
                hypertension, the kind of blood-pressure
elevation for which there isnt one definite
cause. There are, however, things that contribute
to its emergence. A diet loaded with salt and
relatively poor in potassium, a couch-potato
lifestyle, obesity and the family genes work
together to raise blood pressure. Primitive
people who spend most of their waking hours
hunting for food and whose diet is low in salt
                rarely have high blood pressure.
                Doctors do know
why blood pressure rises. It comes about from
artery constriction. All arteries, even the
smallest, are encircled with tiny muscles that
can contract and narrow their diameter. When that
                happens, blood pressure goes up.
                Secondary
hypertension is the kind of blood-pressure
elevation for which there is an identifiable
cause. Tumors of the adrenal gland, a kinking of
the artery leading to one of the kidneys and an
abrupt tapering of a part of the aorta are
examples of things that lead to secondary
                hypertension. Blood pressure that doesnt
respond to usual treatment or high blood pressure
in young people suggests the possibility of
                secondary hypertension.
