 Endorses The
        Proposition. Factory for
Manufacturing Barker Barometer Should be Located Here. Editor - I have heard many
speak of your editorial on locating the factory for the
manufacturing the Barker alarm barometer in Carthage and
all agree with you. There is a big demand for barometers
of all kinds and there is not a factory making them in
the United States except the few turned out by the
government for its own use. They are all made in Germany
or England. Of course the factory will
have to start on a small beginning but the demand of its
output will in a few years make it an industry that will
equal any other in the United States. It is the small
factories building as business increases that make a
success. Get this one for Carthage by all means. Why should we let Joplin,
Webb City or Kansas City have this factory when we can
get it ourselves. We seldom have an opportunity like this
so let us embrace it and encourage home industries. -

 Stench Report:Tuesday,

No Stench Detected | Just Jake
                Talkin' Mornin'
I actually hear from time to time folks who
complain that we just dont have a real
                winter anymore.
 Usually
the thought is emphasized by the fact that they
used ta go ice skatin on Kellogg lake back
when. I used ta roller skate on a
pretty regular basis down at the rink, but
Ive only been on ice skates a couple a
times. Never out on a lake. I imagine havin
a nice fire burnin on shore and dozens a
folks slidin from here to there with a
light snow in the air. Kids screamin and
adults yellin to the kids to be careful.
Marathon races and couples aimlessly gliding to
points unknown. Im sure it was an
upliftin experience. I also see frost bit toes and a
dribblin nose and lost gloves and when push
comes to shove, I still like 60 degree Januaries. This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin. |

                A Tip By JoAnn Derson

"To keep track of the amount spent on gift
cards, I write the balance on the card with a
magic marker. As long as you avoid the barcode
area, you can write whatever you like on the card
without ruining it." -- D.L. via e-mail "Binder clips from
the office-supply store work great for closing
bags, like chips, vegetables, etc. You can get a
box of 10 for half the cost of a regular
"chip clip," and they are easy to
use." -- J.L. in Washington "I keep my lotions
and sprays tidy on my vanity by corralling them
in a small wooden box that is meant to be a
window box for plants. I painted it to match the
decor in my bathroom, and it looks nice and
neat." -- F.J. in Florida When making cookies, try
lining the baking sheet with aluminum foil. When
the cookies are done, you can just lift the foil
and cookies together off the baking sheet to
cool, and the pan doesnt need to be washed. | Copyright 1997-2006 by Heritage
