Gone To Sedalia for Extended Visit.

Mr. Archias is planning to re-enter business again next fall and states that he will locate either in Carthage or Joplin. In his years of business here he has built up a patronage from these towns among people who will be interested in seeing him establish a first class business in the same old line.

News release

Residents of Carthage made a giant step toward a cure for cancer on June 2-3, 2006 when they walked throughout the night during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.

Twenty-three teams and more than 270 people came together during this year’s Relay to raise in excess of $63,400, with more than 2,000 attending the event on June 1. "We appreciate all the support we received from each of the teams, as well as from our sponsors," said Nora Tebbets, event co-chair. "We are especially grateful to many volunteers and their families for all of their hard work to make this event happen."

Mornin',
The ads for the "perfect pancake" maker rate right up there with the "Mr. Tea." The contraption is built like the old waffle irons. You pour in the batter, close the hinged lid, and turn it over to cook on the other side. Supposed ta be easier than just flippin’ the flap jack. "But there’s more." Ya also get a batter dispenser. One more thing to wash.

I’m thinkin’ of a "how-to" book that would teach folks how to spoon batter outa the bowl ya mix it in onto a decent sized griddle. Wait till the pancake bubbles up on top, and flip it with a spatula. It would be a little book, ‘bout the size of this column.

"How to Cook Pancakes," only $5.95. But there’s more, included at the same price you also learn "How to Make Tea." And, as a special bonus, "The Secret Ingredients for Ice Water."

This is some fact, but mostly,

Here's A Tip
By JoAnn Derson

• "An easy way to clean your blender is to do a quick rinse after you blend (to get out any large particles), and then add a half-cup each of baking soda and water. Give it a spin on a fast cycle for about 30 seconds, rinse and set upside down to dry. This works best if you clean it right after you’ve used it." -- K.W. in Nevada

• "Nail polish can be used to differentiate similar-looking keys on your key ring. Use a separate color for each key (e.g., red for the front door, gold for the back door, blue for the shed), and the right key will be easy to find." -- F.G. in Minnesota

• If you have to stack your pans in the cupboard, line them with paper plates to discourage scratching.

• "When packing a cooler for the beach, we freeze individual bottled waters. As the day progresses, the water melts and is drinkable. It’s really refreshing to drink ice-cold water, and it keeps other snacks cold." -- J.McK., via e-mail from Florida

• Another cooler tip: "When we go to the park, we always bring a couple of wet washcloths and put them in a plastic bag in the cooler. It’s a great cool-down for the kids, and we wipe hands and faces with the washcloths before we get back in the car." -- A.C. in California

• Studies show that the higher the temperature, the lighter the fare. Dieters take note: Turn off the air conditioning about 20 minutes before dinner. You’ll consume less food and will be likely to eat lighter foods.
