The value of the revolvers will amount to something over $100. The safe and the money drawer were not molested. The culprits have not been apprehended as yet.

Mornin',
This time a year is always uneasy for me. Wantin’ to take a look at a couple months out in the future, my calendars all stop at the end of the year. Some give ya a little January down in the corner, but what about February or maybe June? No wonder so few of us plan ahead.

I know there are those calendars that go out for several years, but I’m thinkin’ maybe all calendars should have at least a small version of next year printed on ‘em somewhere.

I like those little stick on calendars, but this time a year, with only a couple a sheets left, they start lookin’ a little trashy.

I suppose if I actually paid for a calendar, I could get one that better suits my needs. The search for perfect free one seems to suit me better.

This is some fact, but mostly,

The holidays are approaching quickly and that often includes some long driving times to visit friends and relatives. Pushing to get somewhere can lead to longer than average car drives and sleepiness when alertness counts most.

Some well placed rosemary or basil oils can help maintain alertness. Soak some cotton balls and place them on a small dish in the car. Do not put them on the upholstery or dash as the oils could remove color or stain. I use a recycled glass vitamin bottle and open the lid and let the aroma fill the car as needed. Works for me!

Newest diet aid...CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a mixture of fatty acid isomers that have a conjugated double bond. What does that mean? Not much to the average person, but to the researchers at the University of Wisconsin* who were doing tests on the carcinogenicity of grilled hamburger meat, it was exciting. The tests found a potent anticancer effect of the lipid portion of that meat. BUT in the process, they also have shown that CLA will reduce body fat and promote lean muscle mass particularly when combined with exercise. One study showed it was especially beneficial when it came to excess "tummy fat".

Art Notes From Hyde House
By Sally Armstrong, Director of artCentral

This weekend begins another wonderful show for artCentral and our last for 2006. Barbara Courtney has delivered 23 beautiful oil paintings to us and they are up on the walls awaiting the viewers. Sean Shuster has brought 13 of his acrylic paintings for our Member Gallery for showing as well. We are excited for the Opening on Friday night! We have decorated for Christmas as Hyde House is on two Christmas home tours soon and needs to be ready.

And now, a little something about our featured artist. Barbara Courtney prefers to work from life, finding a painting wherever the light is creating beauty, in the studio or the great outdoors. She has done paintings on location in the incredible scenery of Sedona, Arizona, amidst the Victorian architecture of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Joplin, Missouri, and in her very own flower garden at home in Eucha, Oklahoma. The rural area that surrounds her home there is reflected in several works in this show; beautiful farms, playful animals and water scenes and forests. Her still-lives reflect scenes from her past --- a group of Christmas decorations from her Mother’s home. Much enjoyment and mastery of color and detail are presented in subtile ways in these oil paintings both large and small.

She has served several art associations as president, show chairman, and teacher, finding the association with other artists beneficial for information and new ideas. An exhibitor since 1980, Courtney’s work has been displayed in many one-woman shows such as the Women of the Heartland and Bartlesville Art Association in Oklahoma, and group shows including the Rand Gallery in Tulsa, Museum of Art in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Art Guild, and the William Webb Gallery in Joplin. Her work is a part of many private collections and has been represented in THE ARTIST’S MAGAZINE and ART OF THE WEST. Barbara continues to teach privately from her home in Oklahoma.

Please come out and meet Barbara Courtney and join us at the Opening at 6:00 Friday night the 10th!
