A Birthday Surprise Party.

Ron French was given a surprise party Friday evening at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. French on North Main street in honor of his birthday anniversary. Over thirteen of his young friends were present and a good social time was enjoyed from 7:30 to 10:30. Many games were played and at nine o’clock refreshments of ice cream, cake and fruits were served. The impromptu host was the recipient of a number of nice presents. His surprise was complete. He had gone over to the home of his friend Carl Johnson. Some excuse was raised for getting him home a moment and there were the guests all assembled.

Mornin',

There is a lot to be said for an old fashioned, manual typewriter. Even the word seems old fashioned. The thing I like about a typewriter is ya could know all there is to know about one.

Ya had to know how to put in the ribbon, how to set the tabs, and then there was that miracle double and triple space lever. Beyond that, it was figurin’ out how to stack a couple of pieces of carbon paper between sheets of typing paper.

Computers, on the other hand, are built to intimidate. Sometimes it seems the update notices come daily. I’ve got more information stuffed in the computer than I’ll ever have time to look at, how many more do I need? Sometimes I wish those computer program guys would take a couple weeks off and let me try to catch up a little.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Plantain, that shiny wide-leafed plant that wants to grow so profusely in our yards came in very handy for me the other day when I was working on the porch and invaded a wasp nest! Thought I had gotten rid of them all, but one hit me about 15 minutes into the job. It only took me a few seconds to spot, pick and chew some plantain leaf to apply to the sting. In about 3 minutes much of the swelling and sting was gone. I find it works well in cases of other bites and stings also.

A few other herbs of interest.

GYMNEMA SYLVESTRE: as long ago as 1930, this herb was researched for its’ effects on supporting healthy blood glucose levels. Further studies have confirmed that Gymnema induces the pancreas to secrete insulin, helping the body to naturally metabolize glucose.

SPIRULINA: is a blue-green microalgae commonly found in Hawaii. This "superfood" includes protein, B-12, trace minerals and vitamin A. It is easily digested and absorbed. Some use it for diet food while others use it when recovering from illness. Either way, it is a power packed food supplement.

BITTER ORANGE: has been known to increase metabolic action. It is frequently found in diet formulas. In the Materia Medica 9th edition, it is described as beneficial for headache with nausea, vomiting and vertigo.
