If I were honest, there are a number of red lights that I have driven through. But on the other hand, I’ve stopped at a lot of green lights that I’ve never gotten credit for.

Cakewalk Thursday Night.

Thursday night the Light Guard boys will give their first cake walk at the armory. Not many persons have ever seen a genuine "400" cakewalk and the boys are looking for a large attendance at the novel spectacular. Willie Reeves, "Sportin Willie" Hancock, Silas Moore, Fate Fiazier, John Harbin, Jack Denton, Frank Emerson and perhaps others have been secured to walk for a huge white cake which will contain a silver dollar. Messrs. J. B. Gouger and John Milbollan will furnish music. The event will begin at 8:30 sharp and the folks will not appear on the program after its conclusion.

A dancing program will follow the awarding of the cake and the young folks may dance until midnight if they desire. The admission has been fixed at 50 cents for dancing tickets and spectators 25 cents per couple. The Light Guard will probably give a cakewalk for the society folks to enter later in the season.

Mornin',

For those interested in filin’ for County offices, here’s the skinny on procedure as outlined by the office of Election and Voter Registration.

Monday, Feb. 23, candidates will be admitted into the east entrance of the Courthouse. They, or a stand-in (stand-ins can only hold position for one candidate at a time), must hold that position until 4 p.m. that afternoon.

Candidates must be back in position at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24 and the filing will begin.

Candidates are reminded that they must have a receipt from their Party Chairman before they can file.

It’s prob’ly too early to tell, but there seems ta be quite an interest in bein’ first in line so as ta be first on the ballot for some of the County positions.

There may even be some jockeyin’ for which office is filed for at the last minute. Should be an interestin’ pre-race show.

This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin’.

The Super Handyman

Q: My concrete driveway was sealed when it was installed a few years ago. It looks like it was dirty when they sealed it, and there are some spots that I just can’t get out. Is there a way to strip off the sealer to get at the spots? - N. V.

A: If it has been a few years, most of the sealer probably is gone. Try a solution of 3 quarts warm water, 1-quart laundry bleach, a quarter-cup of powdered laundry detergent and two-thirds of a cup of trisodium phosphate. TSP is available at most hardware and paint stores. Use a stiff broom to scrub the mixture into the stain. Leave the mixture on for a half-hour, then rinse it off. As you rinse, be sure to dilute it well so that there’s no damage to any plants next to it.

A Super Hint - After cleaning your good paintbrushes, rub a little waterless hand cleaner into the bristles. The cleaner can remove every bit of the chemicals that you might have missed.

Dear Carrells: I installed a brick fireplace to use for our family barbecues. It’s pretty neat, if I do say so myself. I’m not much for mortar joints so I did mine a little differently. I filled an empty caulking tube with my mortar mix and replaced the plunger. Then I used my caulking gun as the dispenser. The mortar joints look good. They are even and smooth, and I didn’t waste any of the stuff. - R. H.
