1898
INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have
Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.
A Careless Wheelman.
Choteau Garrison and Newell Holbrook
while walking along on South Main street the other night
were startled by the whiz of a bicycle as its rider came
scorching down the pavement. They sprang back, but the
wheel struck Garrison, throwing him against the fence,
skinning his arm and bruising his shoulder. The young men
made an effort to catch the reckless rider and would have
handled him roughly but he was not thrown by the
collision and so escaped.
To Raise the College Bonds.
The board of directors of the
Commercial Club met this afternoon at the Carthage
National bank and arranged the final details of the
canvass to raise the $2,500 to secure the college
proposition.
The city was divided into four
districts and for each district a soliciting committee
was appointed. It’s the firm intention to so push
the work that tomorrow will finish the whole business.

Just Jake Talkin'
Mornin',
One thing for sure, there
are gonna be plenty a choices come election
day.
The big surprise ta me was
Stanley Walker’s entrance to the State
Representative race. Walker has served the
last few years on the Carthage Park Board and
is involved in the youth soccer program.
I suppose the
interestin’ race there will be the
primary ‘tween him and the lady from
Nevada. From what I understand there is a
stronger Democrat foothold in the northern
portion of the district.
Senator Singleton
didn’t get filed until a little after
two in the afternoon from what I can tell.
Haven’t heard anything from his
announced opponent Richards.
I’ve gotta think that
the rush of candidates is ‘bout over.
There will no doubt be a steady trickle of
other entrants over the next month or so.
I’ll try ta keep up with it but for now
I’ll prob’ly get back to the
upcomin’ City election sneakin’ up
on us.
This is some fact, but
mostly, Just Jake Talkin’.
