Psychiatrist: Congratulations, Mr. Young. You’re finally cured of your delusion. But why are you so sad?

Patient: Wouldn’t you be sad if yesterday you were the President of the United States and the next day you were nobody?

Visitor: I suppose they ask a lot for the rent of this sumptuous apartment.

Hostess: Yes, they asked Harold seven times last month.

Customer: I hear my son has owed you for a suit for three year.

Tailor: Yes, sir; have you called to settle the account?

Customer: No, I’d like a suit myself on the same terms.

Christmas Parade Tonight.

The Christmas Parade scheduled for this evening at 7 p.m. may be the largest ever according to Main Street Director Diane Sharits. She reported last week that as many as one hundred entries are possible. The theme for the parade is "A Century of Christmas Memories."

John O. (Pat) and Carolyn Phelps will serve as Grand Marshals of the 1999 parade.

Entries include bands from Carthage High School and Junior High School, Joplin High School, Diamond, Jasper, Pierce City, Joplin North Middle School (7th & 8th Grades) and the Springfield Kiltie Drum Corps, the oldest drum and bugles corps in the U.S.

The Carthage Marching Tigers Booster Club will be serving ham and beans with corn bread and a drink for $3 on the north side of the Courthouse Lawn from 5 to 7 p.m. just before the parade.

The Carthage Technical School Chapter of SkillsUSA-VICA and Main Street Carthage, Inc. sponsor the Carthage Christmas Parade.

Mornin',

Everybody loves a parade. Looks like they will be a good one this evenin’. I haven’t heard for sure, but I’m expectin’ to get a glimpse of Santa ‘fore the festivities close.

If you’re not for sure of the parade route, be on the Square, you won’t be able to miss the performance.

Looks like there will be somethin’ for ever’one, includin’ of course a horse or two and some antique automobiles.

Parades are by nature mostly a spectator activity I suppose, although the participants are the attraction. I was in a parade without an audience once, they call it marchin’. It’s a lot more fun when folks show up and cheer on the show. ‘Sides, the louder you cheer, the more candy gets thrown your way.

This is some fact, but mostly,

Just Jake Talkin.’

The Super Handyman

Dear Al & Kelly: I have just completed the repainting in our home. One thing that I did instead of masking a lot of things that needed to be protected from the paint was to use aluminum foil on them. Things lie knobs, pulls and other odd-shaped things are hard to remove and even harder to mask off. The foil is simple to use and will conform to just about any shape. It can even be reused in other areas if need be. I like it because it works. But mainly I like foil because it’s easier to remove than masking tape.

Dear Al: We use a dehumidifier in our basement, as it seems to be damp during the winter. What we have learned is that the moisture that this dehumidifier collects is practically free of most all of the minerals that are normally found in plain tap water. This means the water is just super for using in a steam iron. My wife hasn’t had to clean the iron out in ages. It’s even better to add to a car battery than tap water is. And our houseplants love drinking this water.

SUPERHINT—If you will need to remove old carpeting to install new flooring, save some money by doing the removal yourself. To make the job easier, cut the existing carpet into smaller pieces before pulling it up. It will be much easier to remove and probably easier to have hauled off.
