Willie's little sister came into the schoolroom and handed the following note in to the teacher:

"Teacher, please excuse Willie-he caught a skunk.

The Sunday drivers had picked the farmer's fruit and his flowers, and their car was full of plunder. Pointing to an unexplored highway, they inquired of the farmer:

"Shall we take this road back to the city?"

"You might as well," replied the farmer, "you've got almost everything else!"

Hotel Clerk-"Why don't you wipe the mud off your shoes when you come in?"

Kentucky Mountaineer-"What shoes?"

INTERESTING MELANGE.
A Chronological Record of Events as they have Transpired in the City and County since our last Issue.

Y. M. C. A. Notes.

Within the next few days work will begin on the bath rooms of the Y.M.C.A. The floors in both the tub and shower bath rooms and under the furnace will be covered with copper. The floors of the bath rooms will be raised up and the old tin tubs are to be consigned to the scrap heap. In their places will be installed two nice porcelain tubs, one a gift to the association and another which will be paid for by money already raised by subscriptions from the members. A complete lavatory is also to be put in, making the room the best equipped in the city.

A gymnasium class has been organized, with Will Blake, assisted by John Akers, as instructors. The association has a very good set of gymnasium apparatus and the class will likely be a large one. Owing to Mr. Blake's sprained shoulder the first lesson will not be given for about ten days.

Memorial Hall Plans to be Presented.

The Memorial Hall Long Range Planning Committee and the City Council are scheduled to meet this evening at Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. for a work session concerning the renovation of the historic structure. Jerry Hagerman of the Springfield architectural firm of Pellhan, Phillips, and Hagerman will present drawings of planned improvements tentatively approved by the Public Services Committee.

The improvements, which are estimated to cost about $1.5 million, include an additional west side entrance, a new entrance at the southeast corner, a full professional kitchen, and a second level circling the main auditorium. Exterior modifications are expected to be minimal except the large windows being exposed as they were originally. The plan also will include the installation of an elevator and expansion of the women's rest room facilities.

The Boylan Foundation furnished a grant for $20,000 to fund the study. Funding for the actual renovation has not yet been secured, but there has been some speculation that other grants would be possible.

Mornin',

All elected County Officials were sworn in last Thursday mornin', except for the coroner. Coroner elect Mike Randolph was not at the ceremonies. He was about the only one with any interest, the court room was so stuffed that people were pokin' heads in the door ta see the goin's on.

Accordin' to County Counselor Spradling, Ron Mosbaugh, who was appointed to fill the unfulfilled term, is officially still the coroner until officially replaced.

As reported in the Mornin' Mail a couple a weeks ago, Randolph was seein' some questions raised about a Missouri constitutional conflict about bein' a bail bondsman and the coroner at the same time. The fact that he didn't show up ta be sworn in was taken by most as a sign that he may have made the decision not to accept the will of the voters.

This is some fact, but mostly,

The Super Handyman

Q: We have vinyl-clad windows and a sprinkler system outside the house. The vinyl has become spotted by the water and looks cloudy. What will remove these spots?

A: The vinyl shouldn't be harmed by the water itself. The dullness is probably just due to the mineral deposits left behind when the water from the sprinklers has evaporated.

Try washing the vinyl parts with a little bit of hot vinegar and a scrub brush. That should clean them right up.

Q: Our kids enjoy playing in the rain, but they usually track in mud before I can stop them. What is the best way to remove mud from carpets?

A: Just let it alone until it dries. Then it becomes dirt, and your vacuum can deal with that.

Dear Al: I have a fantastic filing system for my household papers. I use large cereal boxes with one of the long, thin sides cut out. With the top taped closed, I have a perfect place to keep my important papers organized. I cover the boxes with matching wallpaper and they look super. It's a good way to fight clutter around my house. I used the same filing system in my office, and now I am storing some of my shop magazines this way.
