Politician: What we need is a working majority.

Merchant: What we really need is a majority working.

Mark: I’ll bet you’re one of those people who drop their work and beat it as soon as the 5:00 p.m. whistle blows.

Clark: Not me. After I quit work I usually wait about ten minutes for the whistle to blow.

In Their New Shop.

Two years ago last month Jay Butcher came to Carthage from Ohio and began working for George Caffee, who then operated a blacksmith shop in an old building at the corner of Fifth and Grant streets. In the February following. He bought out his employer and has carried on the business at the old stand ever since. Two Hour Parking Area Extended.

The Public Safety voted unanimously to extend the two hour parking restriction to include the north side of 4th Street between Howard and Lincoln. The request was made by Jim and Linda Hodson who own business and rental property at that location.

Police Chief Ed Ellefsen said the request was made to so parking would be available for customers. According to the discussion, employees of various area businesses use the street parking, leaving their vehicles all day.

The Committee also decided not to enact additional restrictions concerning parking in the 300 block of Howard. Chief Ellefsen reported that only one accident had occurred in that area since 1993. Reports of congestion relating to the coming and going of cable tv trucks spurred the discussion.

Dean Petersen of Southwest Missouri Cable spoke to the Committee and assured them that the company would make efforts to ease the problem. He said the situation has become worse since the old Gas Company building was converted to apartments.

Just Jake Talkin'
Mornin',

Durin’ the little warnin’ cold spell that arrived last week, I began checkin’ for any breakdown in the weather strip and caulkin’ around windows, doors and other likely spots. From what I hear, this week will give us a little warmer weather to get out and seal up those thieves of heat.

‘Course the first purchase is onea those expandin’ foam type a stuff. I see they have the new "giant" size available now. There just never seems ta be enough a that in one can.

The old fashioned caulkin’ gun is prob’ly the most inexpensive avenue for most. It just isn’t near as much fun as watchin’ that foam expand into odd shapes and drip into a pile when it falls out.

I’d have ta guess that at least half a can is the most I actually get any used of. The rest has ta be considered as entertainment value. At least it makes crawlin’ ‘round under the house a little less annoyin’.

This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin’.
