"And you couldn’t stop, huh?"

Movement on Myers Park Development.

The Myers Park Development Committee plans to present the City Council with a recommended plat at the next regular City Council meeting. The group will propose that the property be divided into several "blocks," consisting of various amounts of acres. The plat would include only main roadways and leave secondary streets undefined until definite development projects are initiated.

The Committee has generally accepted the idea of either developing the property one block at a time or selling blocks to developers.

This strategy has been given more credence in light of estimated costs to build streets and install utilities, including under ground power lines, for the entire development.

This "piece meal" approach was not favored initially, but the lack of support for the creation of a TIF district for the project left few options for financing the development.

The "greenspace" will not be required for private developers but suggested at 10%. Some common area greenspace is part of the overall development.

Mornin',

I don’t know if it’s function or attitude.

It hit me the other day while tryin’ to negotiate the streets durin’ the High School lunch hour. Used ta be you could tell if a male and female in a car was a "couple." The girl would be sittin’ in the middle next to the male driver. Now a days ya don't see that much.

Now the prevalence of bucket seats in autos today could be the explanation for this change in habits. I can remember thinkin’ how uncomfortable it musta been for those loyal girlfriends, sittin’ on the console, back when bucket seats were a luxury.

‘Course the other explanation may be that young females today are showin’ more independence. Not willin’ to be impractical just for show.

More than likely, it was not this generation that made the break from front seat coziness, but their mothers. Yet another cultural change brought to us by the 60’s, and a legacy to the Volkswagon Beetle.

This is some fact, but mostly, Just Jake Talkin’.

The Super Handyman

Shop Talk - Work gloves are supposed to protect your hands, but sometimes you need to "feel" what you are doing. Most gloves that fit that snugly don’t offer much protection. Glove Boy latex gloves might be a perfect fit for you. Their textured fingers and palms are great for gripping, and the polymer coating makes them resistant to most chemicals and solvents. You can find them at hardware stores, paint stores, auto-supply stores and home centers.

Super Hint - It’s always a good idea to have your chimney checked each year before starting the first fire. A creosote buildup is hard for a novice to see, and can be a real fire hazard if not cleaned out. Do it now and beat the rush.

Q: I have several gouges and scratches in my dark oak wood floor. Is there some easy and inexpensive way to cover or erase the damaged spots without refinishing the whole floor? - L. C.

A: You should be able to find wood filler in the same color as the floor. There are some fillers that will accept a stain, which could be applied with a small artist’s brush. After the stain is applied, you should apply a finish over the patched area.

Super Hint - To work on a ladder that is standing in sand, use nails or clamps, attach a couple of 1 X 4’s to the ladder’s feet, and it won’t sink while you are working.
